Cult label Blue Underground has revealed that it is planning to release on Blu-ray Italian director Damiano Damiani's El chuncho, quien sabe? a.k.a Bullet for the General (1966), starring Gian Maria Volonté, Klaus Kinski, Martine Beswick, and Lou Castel. The preliminary release date set by the distributors is May 22.
Cult label Blue Underground has revealed that it is planning to release on Blu-ray Italian director Giulio Questi's Se sei vivo spara a.k.a Django, Kill... If You Live, Shoot! (1967), starring Tomas Milian, Ray Lovelock, and Piero Lulli. The preliminary release date set by the label is June 19th.
Independent British distributors Arrow Films will release on Blu-ray director Richard Elfman's Forbidden Zone (1982), starring Hervé Villechaize, Susan Tyrrell, and Gisele Lindley. In 1981, the film was nominated for Saturn Award for Best Low-Budget Film. Street date is May 7th.
Independent British distributors Arrow Films have revealed that they will release a Double Play and SteelBook editions of director Abel Ferrara's King of New York (1990), starring Christopher Walken, David Caruso, Laurence Fishburne, and Wesley Snipes. These releases will be available for purchase online and in shops around the United Kingdom on June 4th.
Next month, Warner Home Entertainment will reissue Ben-Hur on a 50th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray/DVD combo pack. One of the most acclaimed films of all time, this Biblical epic stars Charlton Heston (Planet of the Apes) as the title character, a Jewish nobleman who is enslaved and forced to fight for his life. Previously available as a Best Buy-exclusive, this version of Ben-Hur expands its release schedule on February 7th.
Blu-ray.com and Acorn Media are offering six Blu-ray.com members the opportunity to win a copy of Poirot: Series 1 or Poirot: Series 2, featuring the beloved Belgian detective that appeared in more than 80 Agatha Christie stories. The 2-disc sets arrive on January 31st. Series 3 is set to follow on March 6th.
Independent British distributors Arrow Films have revealed that they will release a Double Play edition of Vittorio De Sica's Miracle in Milan (1951), starring Emma Gramatica, Francesco Golisano, and Paolo Stoppa. Also included on this release is the Italian director's little seen Il Tetto (1956). Street date is March 26th.
Studio Canal have officially announced and detailed their upcoming Double Play edition of Terence Fisher's Dracula: Prince of Darkness (1966), starring Christopher Lee, Barbara Shelley, and Andrew Keir. The film will be available for purchase online and in shops across the United Kingdom on March 5th.
In March, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will bring The Sitter to Blu-ray. Directed by David Gordon Green (Your Highness), this raunchy comedy stars Jonah Hill (Moneyball) as a college-age slacker whose babysitting job takes a dark turn when he and his young charges become the targets of two unstable drug lords (Sam Rockwell, Moon, and J.B. Smoove, Hall Pass). The Sitter is expected to street on March 20th.
In March, Well Go USA will bring Blade of Kings to Blu-ray. Directed by Patrick Leung (second unit director of Red Cliff) and Cory Yuen (The Transporter), this epic action-adventure stars Donnie Yen (Ip Man) and Jackie Chan (Supercop). Blade of Kings streets on March 6th.
French distributors EuropaCorp will release a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack of director Luc Besson's (The Fifth Element, Leon: The Professional) latest film The Lady (2011), starring Michelle Yeoh (Reign of Assassins) and David Thewlis (Mr. Nice). Last year, the film was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. Street date is April 18th.
Independent British distributors Artificial Eye will release on Blu-ray Danish director Gabriel Axel's Babettes gæstebud a.k.a Babette's Feast (1987), starring Stéphane Audran, Bodil Kjer, and Bibi Andersson. In 1987, the film won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Cannes Film Festival. A year later, it also won Oscar Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Street date is May 28th.
In an early retail announcement, MPI and IFC Home Entertainment have indicated plans to release Into the Abyss: A Tale of Death, A Tale of Life on Blu-ray. Directed by Werner Herzog (Encounters at the End of the World), the documentary uses a homicide case in Conroe, Texas, to examine those in support of the death penalty. The Blu-ray is expected to street on April 10th.
Independent British distributors Artificial Eye have revealed that they are planning to release a box set with five films by legendary Swedish director Ingmar Bergman: It Rains On Our Love (1946), A Ship Bound For India (1947), Sawdust And Tinsel (1953), Dreams (1955), and So Close To Life (1958). Street date is April 23.
As of 7th of June 2010 most of Blu-ray.com is wiki-driven, meaning that regular members
can add and submit updates for movies and hardware. A long requested feature has been
the ability to also add and update cast & crew, so this feature has now finally been added.
Eureka Entertainment have revealed their upcoming titles for the months of April, May, and June 2012. There will be seven new releases added to the Masters of Cinema series: Double Indemnity, The Lost Weekend, Lifeboat, Island of Lost Souls, Ruggles of Red Gap, Sansho Dayu, and Ugetsu Monogatari, as well as one non-Masters of Cinema release, namely Takashi Miike's Yatterman.
In April, Warner Home Entertainment will bring Born to Be Wild to Blu-ray. Originally shown in IMAX 3D, this nature documentary details the struggles that orphaned animals face in the wild. Born to Be Wild is expected to street on April 17th.
Next month, Lionsgate and Summit Home Entertainment will bring The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 to Blu-ray. This installment in the Twilight franchise follows the marriage of vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson, Water for Elephants) to human Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart, Adventureland) as well as the union's dangerous consequences. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 streets on February 11th.
Italian distributors Flamingo Video will release on Blu-ray director Roberto Rossellini's Stromboli (1950), starring Ingrid Bergman, Mario Vitale, and Renzo Cesana. In 1950, the film was nominated for the prestigious Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival. The preliminary release date set by the distributors is March 20th.
EMI/Universal Music have revealed that they are planning to release on Blu-ray Iron Maiden: En Vivo!. The show was filmed on April 10th, 2011, in front of over 50,000 ecstatic fans at the Estadio Nacional, Santiago, during the Round The World In 66 Days leg of The Final Frontier World Tour. Street date is March 27th.
